Cover and Internal spread for a graphic novel adaptation of Treasure Island
This project was a live university brief to create an internal spread and cover for a graphic novel adaptation of Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. The brief was overseen by a book designer from Sweet Cherry Publishing, and I was able to receive professional feedback over the course of the project.
The Cast
While designing these characters, I aimed to make their personalities readable in an instant, from Jim's adventurous spirit to Trelawney's cheer and strength, to Livesey's more serious and nervous disposition.
My favourite character to design was Long John Silver, who appears to be a friendly and harmless ship cook until he reveals himself to be a mutinous pirate! (Apologies if I spoiled that one for you). If you squint at his latter design, his face looks a lot like a skull!
